When you're new to Oberlin, you've got lots of things clamoring for your attention and we don't want computers to be one of them! Check below for simple instructions on using your new accounts and getting access to Oberlin Technology Resources. If there's something that isn't answered below, contact the CIT Help Desk at x58197.
Computer Services at Oberlin College
We want to make your life as stress-free as possible when it comes to your computer, and so we offer a lot of services here for you. Some of the most important ones for students are:
CIT Help Desk
The CIT Help Desk is located on the main level of Mudd Center in the Academic Commons. Look for the "Information" sign in the center of the Commons to find us. The Help Desk is the place to go if you need to reset your ObieID password. This is also the place to go if you have hardware problems or trouble with software on your computer.
The Technology Store, an Apple Campus Store and Authorized Service Provider, and an HP authorized Sales and Service Provider, is your source for all tech purchases, including computers, software and accessories. For more information, visit their website at http://new.oberlin.edu/office/oberlin-technology-store/index.dot or stop by in person from 1:00pm - 4:30pm, weekdays in the basement of Mudd library.
Electronic Computer Services at Oberlin
Your ObieID is your main Oberlin College account. It is used to access most online services at Oberlin College, including OCMail, Blackboard, OnCampus, personal websites, group websites, VPN, lab computers and certain software.
OCMail is Oberlin College's e-mail service, powered by Google Apps for Education. It is similar to Google's GMail product, but has been customized for Oberlin.
PRESTO (Personal Records for Employees and Students at Oberlin) is managed by the Registrar's office and your username will be your T# and your password is defaulted to your birth date in this format: mmddyy
Blackboard is Oberlin College's online course management system. In courses or organizations students can access materials, participate in discussions, wikis, or blogs, and even take online quizzes/surveys through these sites. You can log on to Blackboard by clicking here. Be sure to login with your ObieID credentials.
CIT recommends OCDocs for electronic file storage since you get free space with your email account.
OCApps, powered by Google, are an addition to your standard OCMail account. This suite of web-based applications includes calendar functionality, instant messaging, a website and wiki builder, and collaborative document sharing. For more information on OCApps, OCApps.
CIT manages a number of public and reserved-use only computer labs on campus.
CIT provides web accounts for both individuals and groups such as chartered student organizations and academic departments.
