Anti-Virus Protection for Macs
CIT has discontinued its license for VirusBarrier, the previously College-provided anti-virus software for Macs. It is the opinion of CIT that viruses are not a major threat to Mac computers and many anti-virus programs waste valuable system resources and may make computers run more slowly. Users currently running VirusBarrier on their computers should uninstall it. As is the case Windows computers on campus, CIT suggests that those Mac users wishing to run anti-virus software should choose a free solution from the Mac App Store.
How do I know if I have Intego VirusBarrier installed?
Look for the small "castle tower" icon located in your Menu Bar (top right hand corner of your screen near the clock.
Uninstalling Intego VirusBarrier
To properly uninstall your Intego software it is important that you use the latest installer for your software. If you do not have an Intego Installer available to uninstall the software, you can download one from here: http://www.intego.com/support/downloads
Select VirusBarrier X6 from the Latest Updates Menu and click the green Download button.
Locate the installer on your hard drive and double-click on it to open it. From the resulting menu, double click on the "VirusBarrier X6 Installer" icon.
You may get a dialog box that reads "VirusBarrier X6 Installer" is an application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it? Click Open.
Choose Uninstall software and follow the on-screen instructions.
