Automatic iPrint Installation

Macintosh

Install the iPrint Client

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Point your browser to http://www.oberlin.edu/cit/iprint
  3. Click “Install iPrint Client” in the upper left of the browser window to download the iPrint client.
  4. Find the software in your Downloads folder, double-click on the application icon, and follow the on-screen installation instructions. If you receive a message indicating that the software can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer, change your security settings to allow apps downloaded from anywhere.
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. Open System Preferences and the Printers & Scanners pane. Check to see whether all of the printers you regularly use are listed in the left-hand column. If not, proceed to the Install Drivers for a Specific Printer section.

Install Drivers for a Specific Printer

  1. Point your browser to http://www.oberlin.edu/cit/iprint.
  2. Departmental printers each have a label affixed to them indicating their "name". Click the printer you would like to install. The printer will install automatically, including configuring the correct drivers for you.
  3. Test the installation by printing a short document.

Windows

Install the iPrint Client

  1. Right-click on the icon for Internet Explorer and select “Run as administrator”
  2. Point your browser to http://www.oberlin.edu/cit/iprint
  3. Click “Install iPrint Client” in the upper left of the browser window to download the iPrint client.
  4. Find the software, double-click on the icon, and follow the on-screen installation instructions.
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. Check to see whether all of the printers you regularly use are installed. If not, proceed to the Install Drivers for a Specific Printer section.

Install Drivers for a Specific Printer

  1. Right-click on the icon for Internet Explorer and select “Run as administrator”
  2. Browse back to http://www.oberlin.edu/cit/iprint.
  3. Departmental printers each have a label affixed to them indicating their "name". Click the printer you would like to install. The printer will install automatically, including configuring the correct drivers for you.
  4. Test the installation by printing a short document.

Troubleshooting

If you continue to experience problems after you have reinstalled the iPrint client and your printers, try the following steps.

If duplex printing doesn't work...

Duplex Unit Settings on Windows

Macintosh

  1. Open System Preferences and click on the Printers & Scanners pane.
  2. Click on the printer that is failing to duplex properly in the left-hand sidebar.
  3. Click on Options & Supplies...
  4. Click on the Options tab
  5. Check Duplex Unit
  6. Click OK and close the Printers & Scanners pane.
  7. Please take a moment to send an email to CIT including the printer name for which duplexing was not working correctly. This helps us to ensure that correct options are being supplied for all printers.

Windows

  1. Right-click on the printer.
  2. Click on Printer Properties.
  3. Choose the Device Settings tab.
  4. Beside the Duplex Unit (for 2-Sided Printing): option, choose Installed.
  5. Please take a moment to send an email to CIT including the printer name for which duplexing was not working correctly. This helps us to ensure that correct options are being supplied for all printers.

If you receive an error message asking for a "Local iPrint/CUPS user account..."

CUPS Error Message
  1. Ensure that you're running the latest version of Firefox. If not, download from the Mozilla Firefox website and install.
  2. Then, return to the Install the iPrint Client instructions above and make sure the iPrint client has been downloaded and installed.


Manual iPrint Installation

If automatic installation of the iPrint client or a specific print queue fails, it may be necessary to do a manual installation. For more assistance with this process, please call the CIT Help Desk at x58197.
