About Mail Fetcher

Google's Mail Fetcher allows you to centralize all your email from different accounts into one Gmail account . You can download messages from up to five other email accounts.

Setting up Mail Fetching

To use the Mail Fetcher tool to move your OCMail to a personal Gmail account (as in the case of leaving the college due to graduation, employment elsewhere, or retirement):

  1. Log in to your OCMail account.
  2. Click on the gear icon GoogleGear082912.png in the upper right-hand corner. Select "Settings".
  3. Choose the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab. In the POP Download section, choose "Enable POP for All Mail".
  4. Log in to your GMail account.
  5. Click on the gear icon GoogleGear082912.png in the upper right-hand corner. Select "Settings".
  6. Choose the "Accounts" tab. Click "Add a POP3 mail account you own". When you click on that link, a small window will pop up to help you configure your account.
    • Email address: obieid@oberlin.edu (your ObieID is generally your first initial and the first seven letters of your last name)
    • Username: obieid@oberlin.edu (make sure you append the @oberlin.edu)
    • Password: Your ObieID password
    • POP Server: pop.gmail.com (you will need to pull down the drop-down menu, choose Other... and type in this address)
  7. Choose to leave messages on the server or not as per your personal preference.

Email Forwarding

After that process is complete (which will grab all your old mail from OCMail and place it into your personal account), you will want to set up a forwarding address, which will move all of the new mail as it comes in to your OCMail inbox to your personal GMail account. Information on setting up mail forwarding is here on Google's website: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=10957 . You'll need to do that from within your OCMail account.
