EMS Troubleshooting

I get an error message when sending a confirmation. What should I do?

Check the Password Stored in EMS

An error message may occur if you have changed your OCMail password but not updated it in EMS. To change it:

  1. Log in to EMS.
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Click on Preferences. You should see an image like the one shown below.
  4. Confirm that your username is in the format of first initial–last nam (e.g., jdoe@oberlin.edu) as the screenshot shows.
  5. Confirm that the stored password is your current OCMail password.

Set Google to Allow Sign-Ins from Less-Secure Apps

Google may block sign-in attempts from some apps or devices that do not use modern security standards and this manifests as a "password incorrect" error. As of May 2016, some Oberlin College users have noticed this problem with EMS.

If this is the case, you should set OCMail to allow less secure apps to access your account (and thus enable EMS to work properly) by following Google's instructions here.
