VirusScan 8.7i for Windows

Introduction

VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i is a program for detecting and removing viruses and other malware on Windows Vista/XP/2000 workstations and Windows 2000/2003/2008 servers. These instructions pertain to installing, configuring, and using VirusScan on desktop and laptop computers only.

The "i" in the version number refers to the intrusion protection that has been added to VirusScan.

Obtaining VirusScan

VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i for Windows can be downloaded from the CIT Software Downloads page.

To download the software:

  • Start a web browser
  • Connect to the Software Downloads webpage
  • In Authentication box, enter your ObieID username and password
  • Click Windows NT / 2000 / XP Home / XP Pro / Vista
  • Save the file to your desktop
  • Locate and double-click the downloaded file.

Installing VirusScan

To install VirusScan, you must have administrator rights to the computer. If a previous version of VirusScan is detected, the installer will remove it.

To start the VirusScan installer:

  • Open the folder on your desktop
  • Locate the SetupVSE file in the folder
  • Double-click the SetupVSE icon. (If asked to remove Windows Defender, click No.)

In the "Setup" window:

  • Click Next
  • Under "License expiry type" pop-up menu, select Perpetual
  • Click the I accept the terms... radio button, and click OK

(If a previous version of VirusScan is detected, do not select "Preserve Settings" and click Next)

  • In Select Setup Type window, select Typical, and click Next
  • In Select Access Protection Level window, select Standard Protection, and click Next
  • In Ready to install window, click Install button.
  • Setup will then begin installing files on your computer. This may take several minutes. The progress of the installation will be displayed in the window.

(Note: During installation, if warning balloons appear in the System tray, ignore them or click the balloons to close them.)
