Operating System Updates

Updated operating systems for Windows and Macintosh computers can be expected to be forthcoming at various times during any academic year. CIT will update faculty and staff desktop computers on an as-needed basis.

Since the normal replacement cycle of computers usually allows for a timely update to the latest operating system, and since resources are limited, CIT will not routinely upgrade all faculty and staff College-owned desktop and laptop computers. Upgrades will be provided on a case-by-case basis, first-come-first-served, if needed for work purposes.

Faculty and staff who believe they need the latest upgrade for work purposes should contact the Help Desk at x58197 or at cit@oberlin.edu to get a work order created to get this accomplished.

In general, CIT does not desire that any user perform their own operating system upgrade. CIT has standard practices in place that lead to easier administration of College-owned systems. We also will need to reinstall all standard software applications and perform system clean-up (providing security patches and upgrades, etc.).
