Setting up OCMail on your iPhone
Syncing from your Mac
This method is simpler, but only works if you have Mail already configured for use with your OCMail account. Click here for instructions on how to do that on Mac OS Leopard, or here for Tiger.
1.) Connect your iPod touch (or iPhone) to your computer.
2.) Open iTunes.
3.) On the left-hand menu, select your iPod, and scroll to the Info tab.
4.) Scroll down, select the box next to Sync selected mail accounts.
5.) Select the mail account that you want to sync.
6.) Click Sync. Congratulations, you have successfully synced your Mail to your iPod or iPhone!
Setting Up Mail Manually
This method is slightly more complicated, but can be completed without a computer present.
1.) Go to the Settings app on your iPhone or iPod Touch.
2.) In Settings, choose "Mail, Contacts, Calendars".
3.) In "Mail, Contacts, Calendars", choose "Add Account...".
4.) Under "Add Account...", choose "Other".
5.) Enter your information as shown below:
6.) Be sure to enter your username as your ObieID- the first letter of your first name and the first seven letters of your lastname- at oberlin.edu (flastnam@oberlin.edu).
7.) Tap "Save".
8.) Congratulations! Your iPhone or iPod Touch should now be set up to work with OCMail!
Archiving and Deleting on an iPhone or iPod Touch
Deleting and archiving messages on the iPhone works differently depending on your iPhone's software version, or how you set up your iPhone.
Running Version 1.1.2
If you're running version 1.1.2 OR you've manually set up IMAP by following these instructions, this is how message deletion and archiving will work:
Tap the trash button on any message > Archives message so that it will only appear in [Gmail]/All Mail and your iPhone Trash folder.
Running Version 1.1.3
If you've updated to version 1.1.3 AND you've automatically configured Gmail by tapping the large 'Gmail' button, the same actions will differ in the following way:
Tap the trash button on any message > Moves message to the [Gmail]/Trash folder, where it will be permanently removed in 30 days.
Important: If a message has any other labels, the message will also be deleted from its corresponding IMAP folders.
If you wish to archive a message in this new implementation, simply move the message to your [Gmail]/All Mail folder. This can be done by opening the message on your iPhone, tapping the 'Folder' icon located between the 'Trash' and 'Refresh' icons, and then tapping your [Gmail]/All Mail folder to move the message.
