Ironmail

Ironmail is the spam filter that Oberlin uses in conjunction with the main email server. Every time an email gets sent to campus, Ironmail processes it to determine if it is spam. If a message is not spam, it gets sent on its way. If a message is spam, one of two things can happen. Messages that the filter is sure are spam are deleted immediately. Messages that the filter is only mostly sure about are held on the server, and are what show up in your daily quarantine report.

Ironmail processes an average of about 150,000 emails a day, the vast majority of which are spam.

Due to the nature of the Ironmail product, it is not possible to "opt out" of spam filtering. The box automatically processes all mail that comes from outside the Oberlin campus.
