INB for Windows

This is a one-time setup that enables your pc to use the Banner web client with Internet Explorer.

Open Internet Explorer and go to: http://banner.oberlin.edu From the right hand column titled Client Setup, Dbl-Click Download JInitiator. In response to the File Download question, select Save. The last folder you used for saving will be selected by this installer. Choose your Desktop instead; let the installer save the file as jinit.exe; and then close the installer. Now, on your desktop, double-click the jinit.exe icon; select Next, and then select OK.

Leave Internet Explorer open, and follow these steps to update the Root Certificate: Double click on My Computer Dbl-Click the C Drive Dbl-Click Program Files Dbl-Click Oracle Dbl-Click JInitiator 1.3.1.9 Dbl-Click Lib Dbl-Click Security Dbl-Click certdb.txt, which will open the file for editing. Leave this window open. Now go back to the Internet Explorer window, and double click on ‘Obtain Root CA Certificate’ This opens a text file; highlight all of that text. From the Edit menu of that window’s menu bar, select Copy. Go back to the other text file (certdb.txt), place the cursor at the bottom of the file, and, from that Edit menu, select Paste. Save the file and close the window.

Now for the everyday part: When you wish to run Banner from the web, open Internet Explorer and go to: http://banner.oberlin.edu/. (You can create this url as a bookmark) Select Login and wait for a second browser window to open – it will eventually bring you to the Banner login form. At some point, you’ll notice that the first window is still around, but don’t close it. It’s necessary to your Banner session, and the best you can do is minimize the window.

In order to have more than one Internet Explorer browser window open at a time, check the following setting in the IE Tools: In Internet Options, in the Advanced tab, under Browsing, you’ll find ‘Reuse windows for launching shortcuts’. Make sure that is de-selected.

You’ll note the list of forms that normally appears in Citrix Banner do not appear in INB. They can be found by selecting the Options menu from the menu bar at the top of the Banner form. The keyboard shortcut for opening the Options menu is Alt + O.

Viewing and Downloading Output

This document is about viewing and downloading job submission output in Banner INB. It is a little more involved than it was with Citrix – sorry!

You can view the output from the job submission form, GJAPCTL, by selecting Review Output from the Options menu. An alternative is to call up the review form, GJIREVO.

In the form GJIREVO, double-click as needed in the Process, Number or FileName field and select the file you want to view. The output will be displayed. From the Banner menu, select Options, and select Show Documents (Save and Print File). A window will pop up that says you’ve selected to show the file in a browser. Select Yes.

A new Browser window will open with your file displayed. From the Explorer menu, select File, the select Save As… A Save dialog box will pop up, prompting you to select a location for the file. It will also let you give a new name to the file, and lets you select the file format, including text, or .txt. Excel format is no longer a choice, because of limitations in the browser
