From CIT Wiki
Food is not permitted in any CIT computer facility. Drink policy has changed (as of March 2006) to be the same as that of the Main Library.
Food and drink are extremely detrimental to computer equipment. Equipment damaged by food or beverages is expensive to repair and/or replace, both in terms of equipment costs and in terms of personnel resources required to troubleshoot, repair, and/or replace the equipment.
Food is defined as any edible food except gum and cough drops.
Drink is defined as any liquid beverage in an unapproved container.
Anyone observed in any CIT computer facility in possession of a food or drink item will be cited. This includes: fruit, unopened cans of soda, bottled water, a cup of coffee, a bag of pretzels, a candy bar, etc. If you carry food with you, keep it stored out of sight, in a backpack, pocket, etc. There are shelves located outside the lab in Mudd 052 for the temporary (while you're in the lab) storage of food or drink. The Library maintains lockers outside Mudd 052 for the temporary storage of non-perishable items.
Fines are for eating and drinking are enforced. Records of warnings and fines are maintained throughout one's time at Oberlin, so a warning in one academic year would be followed by a fine for a second offense in a subsequent year. Please contact any CIT staff member or the Director of Client Services if you have any questions regarding this policy.
- First Offense: Warning; CIT staff will record your name and require you to sign a statement designating receipt of the Food and Drink Policy
- Second Offense: $25.00 fine
- Third Offense: $50.00 fine
- Additional Offenses: Loss of computer privileges, and/or referral to College judicial system or other appropriate authority.
We appreciate your cooperation with our policy on food and drink in CIT facilities.
